Welcome to Isokon House

Jack and Molly’s house

Isokon,  Dunwich Rd, Blythburgh, Suffolk IP19 9LT

Isokon is a peaceful house, with wonderful views of the Blyth Estuary, built for our grandparents, Jack and Molly Pritchard in 1962. The house, brilliantly designed by Jack's daughter Jennifer Jones, was greatly influenced by Jack and Molly's modernist and progressive views. It is a wooden single story house with a flat roof, set in a large garden.  We have recently upgraded the house and thanks to guidance from architect Iain Cochran, we have been able to keep it very much in the original style, both internally and externally.

On one side of the house is the living area and on the other side are the bedrooms, bathrooms and utility room.

There is a large open plan living room and dining room, with a kitchen off to the side. The living room has an open fire and floor to ceiling windows.  The dining table seats 10 comfortably.

The master bedroom has an office area and book cases at one end where Jack used to work.  It is a large bedroom still with the original cupboards and Molly’s dressing table, all designed with typical isometric unit construction that Jack and Molly were so keen on.  The main bedroom has an en-suite bathroom.  There are two more double bedrooms and a shower room.  One of the bedrooms has an additional single bed in it.

Sliding windows lead from the living room on to a large patio and the garden. At the bottom of the garden, situated in a sheltered area, is a swimming pool and sauna. The pool is heated by solar panels and is usually open between late May and mid Sept, depending on the weather. Garden furniture is stored in the sauna shed.

Beyond the pool you can walk down to the bottom of the field and through a gate to gain access to the old railway line.  If you turn left, this takes you to the White Hart pub in Blythburgh village, a family pub providing good food.  If you turn right you can walk to Southwold or Walberswick.  The walk is about 3.5 miles along the edge of the Estuary and through beautiful Suffolk countryside.

On the site, but separate to the house, is the Isokabin which has been recently modernised. It sleeps 4, with a double and 2 singles, has a shower room and wifi.

The car port is now a sheltered games area, with table tennis and darts.  We also have cricket and badminton kits and in the tool shed there is a BBQ.  Logs for the fire are stored here. We provide 1 ‘bag for life’ free, additional logs are charged at £5 per bag.

There is enough parking for approximately 5 cars.

The house has Wifi, TV and a high chair.  The kitchen is stocked with basics such as olive oil, coffee, tea, sugar, salt, pepper, foil, cling film, dishwasher tabs etc.  In the cupboard outside the en-suite bathroom, items such as loo rolls, kitchen paper and other cleaning products are stored.  There is a washing machine and under counter freezer in the utility room.  The house is dog friendly but please be aware that our neighbour keeps chickens so if your dog can jump fences, you will need to be vigilant!  Please try to keep your pet off the sofa and beds. For further information and availability please contact: Info@isokon.uk.
